DRAM prices will remain high

Higher production volume in 2018

Prices for DRAM as well as NAND flash memory has been on the rise since almost a year now. Due to the fact that smartphones can require up to 6 Gigabyte of RAM as well as a considerable amount of NAND flash memory supply is still tight.

Reuters has just published a report that during the third quarter of this year the situation could become even worse. The reason’s the launch of the iPhone 8 that’s incoming by then. It looks like already by now Apple has bought a huge chunk of all the available DRAM, which makes the whole situation even worse.

In fact, the whole situation is already so bad, that different clients are reporting that the have to sign 6-month supply agreements regarding their DRAM and NAND orders. Alongside those deals they also have to agree to higher prices.

Although Samsung, SK Hynix and the likes are continuously increasing the production it still takes time until the increased demand for DRAM and NAND can be met. So far it’s expected that the situation is supposed to get better by the beginning of 2018. But even if the situation gets better a sharp decline regarding the end customer prices cannot be expected.
