ASUS officially announces the GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum

Promises up to 27°C lower temperatures

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has now officially announced its newest Geforce GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum graphics card which is paired up with ASUS' own DirectCU H2O hybrid cooler, which can double up as a standard air cooler and be connected to a liquid cooling system. According to ASUS, thanks to the new DirectCU H2O cooler, the new GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum graphics card is 2x cooler when compared to a reference design.

Although we have already seen some details regarding the new ROG GTX 980 Poseidon yesterday, ASUS has now officially unveiled the new graphics card and revealed all the details.

In addition to the new DirectCU H2O hybrid air+liquid cooler, which should keep it up to 27°C cooler when compared to reference design graphics cards as well as three time quieter, the new ROG GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum graphics card is also loaded with ROG technologies including dual dust-proof fans, die-cast thermal armor and Digi+ 10-phase Super Alloy Power VRM, powered by 8+6-pin PCI-Express power connectors, with black metallic capacitors, concrete-core chokes and hardened MOSFETs.

The new ROG GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum also feature LED ligth that glows red and pulsates when the graphics card is active.

The new ASUS ROG GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum also comes with a decent factory overclock. Based on Nvidia's well known GM204 Maxwell 2.0 GPU with 2048 CUDA cores, the ROG GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum works at 1178MHz for the base GPU clock, 1279MHz for the GPU Boost clock and 7010MHz for 4GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. It also features three Display Port 1.2, single HDMI 2.0 and single dual-link DVI display outputs.

According to ASUS, the new ASUS ROG Geforce GTX 980 Poseidon Platinum will start shipping worldwide sometime during this month. Unfortunately, ASUS did not reveal any details regarding the price, but we will surely keep watching for it to show up in retail/e-tail.
