Amazon reveals the new Fire Phone

3D Interface and unlimited Cloud

A few weeks ago we heard a rumour about a smartphone entirely designed by Amazon, and during the conference they held yesterday in Seattle, the american giant unveiled the new Amazon Fire Phone, which should bring to the table a few interesting features.
The phone is based on a 4.7” touchscreen display with 1280x720 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC at 2.2Ghz, an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. As far as specs are concerned, there's nothing weird, maybe the display resolution could have been better since the competition standard is FullHD. The phone features LTE, NFC, Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11ac connectivity, a 2400mAh battery and it weighs 160g. The OS is a Fire OS 3.5, which is based on Android but redesigned to operate at its best on the Fire Phone. The main camera has 13mpx, while the front camera only has 2.5mpx.

The most interesting feature about the Amazon Fire Phone is hidden in the display: it features some sort of “Dynamic Perspective” 3D (that's how Amazon called it), that detects the position of the user and modifies the UI accordingly. This can be done thanks to 4 front cameras which can also operate in dark conditions, thanks to the infrared light they feature. These 4 cameras can also be used for a more intuitive navigation, for example you can change the page on your book by moving your hand.

At the moment, Amazon only released the phone on the US market, with an exclusive AT&T 2 years contract at 199$ for the 32GB, and 299$ for the 64GB. If you want to buy it without any kind of contract, you will have to spend 649$ for the 32GB, and 749$ for the 64GB. If you sign the AT&T contract, you also get 1 year of Amazon Prime for free, while with every phone you get unlimited Amazon Cloud Driver space for your files.
