Lining up with the Computex 2014 show held in Taipei, Samsung has announced and launched its new TLC NAND based 845DC EVO SSD. While Samsung already had a TLC-based SSD in its product portfolio, the 845DC EVO will be the first Samsung TLC-based SSD which will hit retail and aimed to be used in small and medium data centers.
Unfortunately, Samsung was not keen on revealing much details regarding the insides of the new 845DC EVO SSD and only noted that it uses 10nm-class TLC NAND. Samsung also announced some performance numbers stating that the 845DC EVO can reach up to 530MB/s of sequential read speeds and 87K IOPS for random 4K read. The most important news is its endurance level which goes up to 600TB, which is quite decent for a TLC-based drive.
The pricing is also an important detail considering that the TLC NAND SSDs should bring lower prices. According to Samsung, the 845DC EVO will be available in 240, 480 and 960GB capacities with MSRP of US $249.99, US $489.99 and US $968.99, respectively.
Hopefully we will see a review or two soon as these TLC NAND based solid state drives will be showing more and more in the near future.
