It looks like Gigabyte is having quite some fun with the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti. At first they released an “almost” reference model, then a factory overclocked one which is pretty good, and today they rolled out the Black Edition model.
Let us take a step back and remind that the reference model of the GTX 750 Ti has 1020/1085MHz clocks for the GPU, while 2GB of GDDR5 memory, with a 128-bit memory interface, is clocked at 5400MHz. The first Gigabyte model had the tiniest overclock, with 1033/1111MHz on the GPU.
After that, Gigabyte released a GTX 750 Ti OC, with a decent overclock on the GPU, which was clocked at 1215/1294MHz, while memory was still at 5400MHz. Today, they unveiled a new OC Black Edition model. The memory is still stuck at 5400MHz, while the GPU is clocked ad 1136/1242MHz, which are actually worse frequencies than the OC model. In this particular case, the “Black Edition” suffix does not bring a lot of extra power with it, but a better stability, since the card was tested for over 168 hours on server operations.
The main question is, why has Gigabyte released this particular card? The reason is quite simple as it looks like Maxwell GPUs are pretty good at cryptocurrency mining, which is something that people really like lately, and that is why Gigabyte decided to enter this particular market. Unfortunately, we do not know when this board is going to be released, nor the official price.
