SanDisk announces self-encrypting X300s SSD

Based on new 19nm NAND flash memory

SanDisk has introduced a new addition to its line of solid state drives, the self-encrypting X300S which will be available in capacities ranging from 64GB to 1TB, two form-factors, be based on new 19nm 1Y NAND co-developed by SanDisk and Toshiba as well as feature the advanced hardware encryption.


As noted, the SanDisk X300s will be available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities in standard 2.5-inch 7mm form-factor as well as in M.2 2280 single-sided form-factor in capacities up to 512GB. Based on 19nm 1Y NAND, co-developed between Toshiba and SanDisk as well as yet to be detailed controller, most likely an update Marvell one, the X300 also comes with an AES 256-bit FIPS 197 certified hardware crypto engine to enable full-disk encryption without the performance penalty experienced by the use of software-based encryption.

Unfortunately, SanDisk did not shed any light regarding the transfer speed or the price of the new X300s SSD but we are sure we will hear more about it quite soon.

According to SanDisk, the new X300s SSD will be available as of June.
