For the first time in over 15 years, Electronic Arts has decided that there will not be a new Need for Speed game in the 2014, which comes as a rather big surprise considering that its last Need For Speed: Rivals game did quite well.
Ever since its first release in 1996 (Yes, Need For Speed is that old and so are we) and over 15 years ago when EA started with annual releases of the Need For Speed franchise, EA has decided not to launch the new Need For Speed title in 2014 and practically give up on annual release for the Need For Speed. This comes as a rather big surprise considering that EA claims that Need For Speed: Rivals, which came out last year, performed according to expectations.
In an interview with Kotaku.com, EA's Need For Speed executive producer, Marcus Nilsson, noted that the franchise is not in trouble or is going to go away since the Rivals has a good base on the Playstation 4 and is considered as the most innovative Need For Speed game up to date.
Unfortunately, Nilsson did not mention any specific date regarding "the return" of the Need For Speed franchise but did note that the next one will be quite an interesting one, if all goes well with the development that is.
