An engineering sample of what appears to be the Maxwell GM204 based Geforce GTX 880 was intercepted by Chinese press on its way from a factory in China to Nvidia's center in India, where it should undergo some testing and development.
Although still in its ES form, the GTX 880, as Nvidia is currently calling it, is based on Maxwell GM204 GPU which was earlier rumored to feature 3,200 CUDA cores. The description is quite accurate suggesting that the ES sample pack 8GB of memory, 256-bit memory interface and an Indian market price of around US $780, which currently puts it in line with the R9 290X.
The ES GTX 880 is of course still in its early stages and some things will most likely change as we draw closer to the launch, which should be released quite soon, most likely around Computex 2014 in June.
