NVIDIA's insanely expensive GeForce GTX TITAN-Z should have hit the shelves of retailers and etailers around the globe later today. According to a report from Sweclockers it looks like market availability will be delayed and the reason for that delay is a last minute design change.


That last minute change appears to be related to the cooler. It looks like NVIDIA wants to equip this card with a larger and more powerful heatsink in order to more efficiently remove the heat generated by the two mighty GK110 GPU under the bonnet of this monster.

When comparing two different press shots, the first one taken at the GTC event and the second one taken from the final retail card, you can see that the GTC model features a 2.5 slot cooler. In case of the retail version there appears to be a triple-slot cooler. In other words you pay 1000 US-Dollar per slot occupied in your system if you buy a GeForce GTX TITAN-Z and not 1200 US-Dollar anymore. This sounds almost reasonable, doesn't it?
