According to the pictures leaked online, ASUS has teamed up with Kingston to launch its first ASUS branded solid state drive. Based on a standard 2.5-inch 9.5mm thick form factor, the ASUS HyperXpress SSD will feature the new SATA Express interface, same one that ASUS was keen on advertising for its upcoming Intel Z97 Express chipset based motherboards.
Inside the 2.5-inch case, the new ASUS HyperXpress SSD features host-agnostic RAID 0 array with two mSATA based 6Gbps SSDs paired up together via ASMedia controller. During its event, ASUS showed off the new drie to members of the press but also noted that future versions of the same drive could switch to to M.2 SSDs.
According to tests ran at the event the drive was able to achieve sequential transfer rates of up to 778MB/s, which is not a bad result.
We will most likely hear and see more about ASUS HyperXpress during Computex 2014 in June where most, if not all, manufacturers will come up with an M.2 and SATA Express based SSDs.
