A Raspberry Pi-based smartphone

From David Hunt

There are a lot of projects around the Raspberry Pi and today we discovered a new interesting one, the Raspberry Pi, GNU/Linux based smartphone.

David “Dave” Hunt is an Irish guy with two passions, Do It Yourself and Raspberry Pi. He is currently working as a developer for Linux, so he is the definitely the best man for this job, called the Project PiPhone.

He spent 158$ on components for the first prototype, which is running on Raspbian, a Debian-based OS, created for the Raspberry Pi. If you are interested in the full list of components and how it was done, you can visit his blog.

The new Raspberry Pi smartphone features a 320x240 display and a 2500 mAh battery, which might not be the best stuff you can find on the market, especially if you think about what you can buy with a 200$ budget these days, but it is still really interesting to see what you can create with your own hands if you know how to.
