Introducing the Intrepid 3000 SSD series - OCZ Whitepaper

Key features and capabilities of OCZ enterprise-class SSDs

OCZ has issued a new whitepaper written by Scott Harlin and Chaitri Sewak which talks about the Intrepid 3000 SSD series and identifying key features and capabilities of OCZ's next-generation, enterprise-class, SATA III-based SSDs.

The new whitepaper talks about the best ways to maximize the benefits of flash in data centers which have to address the limitations of the hard drive technology and its impact on enterprise applications and I/O access. While SATA III has become the most widely used interface in the industry it also presents a series of challenges that IT managers must face, including different NAND flash types which by shrinking flash processes also affect NAND reliability, or simply reduces SSD life. IT also has problems with a wide range of applications driving a variety of mixed workloads, which also brings problems with not only support but with performance as well.

The OCZ next-generation Intrepid 3000 SSD series based on SATA III interface aims to solve at least some of those problems by delivering industry's best sustained performance paired up with predictable, efficient and consistent latency responses.

Based on OCZ's Everest 2 platform paired up with latest 19nm NAND flash and with capacities of up to 800GB, the OCZ Intrepid 3000 series SSDs are available in two different configurations, as Intrepid 3600 series with cost-effective MLC NAND and designed for read-intensive applications as well as the Intrepid 3800 series with high-endurance MLC (eMLC) NAND, designed for write-intensive applications.

When compared to previous series, the Intrepid 3000 series delivers five times faster sustained performance for 4K write operations and two times faster sustained performance for 4K read operations as well as offer consistent I/O access with low latency. Most importantly, Intrepid 3000 series SSDs come with enterprise-class endurance and reliability.

The new whitepaper aims to show that OCZ Storage Solutions' Intrepid 3000 series SSDs are currently at the top of its class compared to other SATA III based enterprise SSDs, providing industry-fast, efficient and predictable performance which results in a more responsive environment for IT and enterprise applications such as online archiving, media streaming, web browsing, email and analytics.
