Plextor have announced they're launching their new M6M mSATA SSD, which should be capable of offering high sequential read and write speeds as well as excellent random transfer rates. Thanks to its small form factor the drive is most suitable for ultra-thin notebooks, NUC-style PC, or even tablets.
A closer look at the facts and figures shows, the M6M mSATA SSD is actually a rather quick drive, which is capable of delivering 520 Megabytes per second sequential read speeds and 440 Megabytes per second sequential write speeds. Regarding randeom read/write performance the maker communicates 94'000 IOPS/80'000 IOPS. Other than that Plextor underlines, that these drives are all about real-world performance.
Apart from good performance numbers, the drive should als be highly energy efficient, supporting for example DVSLP standard. When the drive is in sleep mode, power consumption is going to reduced to 2 mW, which helps extending battery life. Resuming from sleep mode takes a quick 100 ms.
For their M6M SSDs Plextor are using the latest Marvell 88SS9188 controller and combine it with Toshiba Toggle flash memory. The firmware for the new drives devleopped in-hous by Plextors own team. The manufacturer offers features like True Protect for advanced data integrity as well as 256 bit AES full disk encryption.
The new drives will be available beginning in the second quarter 2014 with capacities of 128 Gigabyte, 256 Gigabyte and 512 Gigabyte.
