During the last night GTC 2014 keynote, Nvidia's CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, has announced the successor of the Tegra K1 mobile SoC, the Erista. To be based on Maxwell GPU architecture, the Erista is a 2015 chip which will be a big leap in performance compared to current Tegra K1 Kepler-based SoC.
As noted on the new mobile roadmap, the Erista SoC will not be ready before 2015, and although we have already see what Maxwell GPU is capable on recently released GM107-based GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti desktop graphics cards, we are yet to see its full potential on 20nm manufacturing process.
For now, Tegra K1, based on Kepler GPU architecture, will be around for this entire year and be available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. According to Nvidia, Tegra K1 will give around 40 GFLOPS of performance while expectation for the Erista are somewhere around 65-70 GFLOPS.
For now, the Erista is just a mark on the roadmap but we will surely hear more about it as we draw closer to the end of the year.
