Back at Games Developer Conference 2013, the Mozilla Foundation and Epic Games showcased a rather interesting demo of Unreal Engine 3 which ran natively on Firefox and at GDC 2014, they will show the Unreal Engine 4.
This is not the first time that the Mozilla Foundation and the Epic Games studio are working together. At GDC 2013, they showcased a demo, called Epic Citadel, which allowed them to walk the streets of a castle and its surroundings directly in the browser, and with performance which was almost as good as if the demo was installed locally.
At the dawn of the GDC 2014, the Mozilla Foundation announced that the partnership has continued and that this year, we will see the Unreal Engine 4 which runs natively on Firefox. This time around, Mozilla and Epic prepared two demos, a 3D one named Soul and the 2D game called Swing Ninja.
We are not sure that we will see any serious games developed to run on browser anytime soon but these advancements in the field are certainly impressive and it is only a matter of time before the mobile industry will get HTML5 applications.
