While there have been plenty of rumors recently regarding Microsoft's DirectX 12, the company has now officially confirmed that both it will be officially called the DirectX 12 and that it will be officially announced during Games Developer Conference 2014 on March 20th.
Microsoft is keeping all the juicy details for March 20th but the company's Twitter account is rather interesting with the "Rumors of demise have been greatly exaggerated... #DirectX12 is coming to #GDC" sentence. There have been quite a few rumors saying that the DirectX 12 will directly take on AMD's Mantle API and we certainly do hope so.
The website for DirectX 12 shows that AMD Radeon graphics, Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm Snapdragon are on board and hopefully there will be a demo chip at GDC 14 showing what the DirectX 12 is really capable of.
