Samsung has now officially unveiled its newest Chromebook 2 series and it appears that most, if not all, manufacturers are definitely interested in Google's Chrome OS. It has been a year since Samsung released its first Chromebook and has now decided to refresh it with 11-inch and 13-inch models which will be dressed in faux-leather and start at US $320.
In addition to the specification update, Samsung has decided to give the new Chromebook 2 series a bit of a more premium look by dressing the lid in faux-leather with stitched edges, just as we have seen on both the Galaxy Note III smartphone and the Note Pro 12.2 tablet.
As noted earlier, Samsung will be offering the new Chromebook 2 series in two versions, or to be precise, two display sizes, the 11.6-inch and the 13.3-inch. The cheaper, 11.6-inch version packs 1366x768 resolution, Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa 1.9GHz clocked SoC with 4GB of DDR3L memory clocked at 1600MHz. It also packs 16GB of internal storage, 720p web cam, a battery life uof up to 8 hours, HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.
The, a bit more expensive, 13.3-inch version features a much better 1920x1080 resolution screen, same Exynos 5 Octa SoC clocked at somewhat higher 2.1GHz and paired up with the same 4GB of DDR3L memory. It also features 720p HD camera, but has a slightly higher 8.5 hour battery life while the rest of the specs is pretty much the same.
Both the 11.6-inch and the 13.3-inch Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available as of April with a price tag set at US $319.99 and US $399.99, respectively. The 11.6-inch model will be available in Jet Black and Classic White color options while the 13.3-incher will only be available in Luminous Titan Gray.
In any case, Samsung has certainly pushed the Chromebook design to a whole new level.
