Mozilla is apparently looking into a way to earn money directly from the Firefox browser. You might already know that Mozilla is mostly funded by Google and in order to make a further step to full independence, Mozilla is currently looking into advertising and where it could place it in Firefox.
While many could be surprised by this move, it is actually quite a positive surprise. Mozilla apparently plans to include "tiles" which promote certain sites for a fee. It will also separate the non-advertising tiles sites from the ones that are advertised as well as give the user full configuration for advertising.
We certainly think it is a good move for Mozilla, of course if it will be done right so it does not end up to be yet another annoyance. Currently, 80 percent of revenue for Firefox comes from a deal with Google, and these come with certain conditions. While some advertising is certainly annoying, starting the Firefox with "advertised tiles" does not sound like it and might be a really good idea.
