If we believe analysts, sales numbers of UHD displays will finall pick up momentum in 2014. Therefore it is expected that no less than two million UHD displays are going to be sold until the end of this year. A mid-term projection is stating that until end of 2017 market share of UHD displays will hit eight percent.
Analysts from DispalySearch assume, that the market for desktop monitors will shrink to 133 million units until the end of this year. This might also have an impact on the market development for UHD displays. Other than that two million unit is a rather small portion of the entire market share in 2014. NPD DisplaySearch further expects UHD market share to hit five percent in 2016 and by the end of 2017 eight percent of all desktop displays sold will feature UHD panels.
These days UHD displays are rather expensive and unaffordable for most desktop users in most of the worlds mature markets. The cheapest models listed still go for more than 1000 Euro and it will take time until prices drop into truly affordable regions.
