Intel Xeon E7 v2 CPUs detailed

Specifications revealed

There were quite a few rumors about Intel's upcoming new v2 Xeon CPUs, including some details for new Xeon E7-2800 v2, E7-4800 v2 and E7-8800 v2, which are expected to launch sometime during this quarter and showed up in October last year, but today, we got some more details regarding the rest of the lineup which will have no less than 21 different models.

The new Xeon CPUs will use Intel's Ivy Bridge architecture, have 50 percent more cores and 25 percent more cache when compared to the first generation of Xeon E7 CPUs, which were based on Nehalem architecture.

According to CPU-World, which managed to pull specifications from various sources, Intel will launch no less than 21 different models stretching across E7-2800, E7-4800 and E7-8800 series. The E7-2800 v2 series is aimed at dual-socket systems and features 4 different SKUs with 12 and 15 CPU cores. It includes E7-2850 v2, E7-2870 v2, E7-2880 v2 and Xeon E7-2890 v2. The flagship Xeon E7 2890 v2 packs 15 cores with 30 threads, works at 2.8GHz has 37.5MB of L3 cache, 155W TDP and supports up to DDR3-1600 memory.

The E7-4800 v2 series features "advanced" 12- and 15-core CPUs and support 4-way processing or are aimed at quad-socket systems. It includes no less than eight SKUs and while some are quite similar to the Xeon E7-2800 series lineup, just with support for four-socket systems, including E7-4850 v2, E7-4870 v2, E7-4880 v2 and E7-4890 v2, it also features a couple of different SKUs including six- and eight-core, Xeon E7-4809 v2 and E7-4820 v2, SKUs which are basically your entry level Xeon parts.

The last but not the least is the E7-8800 v2 series with support for eight-socket systems. It also features similar models like the E7-2800 v2 and E7-4800 v2 series, including E7-8850 v2, E7-8870 v2, E7-8880 v2 and E7-8890 v2, but also includes some SKUs which are segment-optimized for certain scenarios so they either have higher frequencies or lower TDP.

Unfortunately, there is still no info regarding the price or the precise launch date other than this quarter. You can check out more info via link below.
