Hitman to be canceled?

What is it now, yes or no?

Richard Knight's LinkedIn profile first indicated that Square Enix Montreal has stopped working on the next sequel of Hitman. Knight was working for Square Enix Montreal as a senior game designer.

Since this finding by Videogamer caused quite some confusion Square Enix took the time to explain the situation. After a rather difficult year for Square Enix, where they were suffering from terrible fiscal results, some changes apparently needed to be made, like for instance reducing the workforce at Square Enix Montreal by 50 percent.

Quote:
"There's a bit of confusion around the Hitman projects currently in development at Square Enix-owned studios and so we wanted to take the time to clarify what each studio is working on to clear up some of this confusion. Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise," A Square Enix representative said. "We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year."

So far it looks like Square Enix is not letting go of their Hitman franchise, but it might take a bit longer until the next-gen installment is going to hit the shelves.
