Back in mid 2012 HP planned on laying off 27'000 employees and a few months later, the company announced, that they will close down 29'000 jobs. According to latest plans, HP is going to lay off no less than 34'000 people.
HP was formerly leader in the desktop PC market. Meg Whitman, CEO of HP, explained that due to the very weak desktop PC market, there is no other way than to close down even more jobs. Back in the days the plan was to lay off 29'000 employees, but this number has now been increased to 34'000, which is 15 percent higher. By now restructuring HP has had the consequence that 24'600 people had to look for another job already. According to yesterday's announcement HP will save billions of US-Dollar thanks to the lay offs.
