Nvidia Maxwell Geforce 800M mobile lineup shows up

Coming in February next year

Nvidia and all its fans certainly have high hopes for upcoming Maxwell GPU architecture and thanks to notebook manufacturer Clevo, we now have some details regarding the mobile lineup of Maxwell based GPUs that should show up in February 2014.

While desktop Maxwell based GPUs are still scheduled for March 2014 launch, according to earlier rumors, the mobile lineup should come a bit sooner, or at least ship to various OEMs and notebook manufacturers by February 2014. According to lineup leaked by Clevo, the entry level of the Maxwell mobile lineup includes the GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5, GTX 850M 2GB DDR3 and the GT 840M 2GB DDR3.

The high-end lineup includes the GTX 860M which will apparently have more memory as well as the GTX 870M and the flagship GTX 880M. Unfortunately, it appears that Clevo listed the system RAM for the entire notebook and not the VRAM for the high-end offer so we will have to wait a bit longer for those but most likely that most GPUs for notebooks will still top at 2GB with the exception of the GTX 880M which might get 4GB.

Unfortunately, the list leaked by Clevo does not shed any light regarding the actual specifications of the new chips so some of these might even be Kepler rebrands as far as we know.

AMD will not be sitting on their hands either and Crystal Series Mobility lineup is definitely coming as well and should be also ready for Q1 2014. The timeframe does not come as a surprise considering that both manufacturers are depending on TSMC's ability to get the chips out, which also leaves the possibility that all of these will still be based on 28nm manufacturing process since TSMC will not be ready for 20nm by Q2/Q3 next year.

In any case, next year will be quite interesting when it comes to GPU market, at least judging from what we can see now.
