MSI has announced industry's first 3K gaming as well as 3K workstation-class notebooks that will feature a 15.6-inch 2880x1620 display and be based on Intel's HM87 chipset, Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU and either Nvidia GTX 780M or Nvidia Quadro K3100M, depending on the gaming or workstation SKU, the MSI GT60 notebooks.
Paired up with an anti-reflective 3K 2880x1620 15.6-inch panel as well as Intel's 4th generation quad-core Core i7-4700QM CPU clocked at 2.4GHz base and 3.4GHz Turbo Boost clocks, the GT60 2OD-261US gaming and the GT60 2OKWS-278US workstation notebooks are certainly one of the first ones to pack that kind of panel for that purpose. As noted earlier, the gaming SKU will be paired up with Nvidia's GTX 780M graphics card while the workstation SKU gets Nvidia's Quadro K3100M.
The rest of the specs include 128GB SSD and 1TB HDD, 16GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, Killer E2200 LAN and Killer N1202 abgn WiFi, up to three USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 port, HDMI 1.4 output, 9-cell battery, SteelSeries backlit keyboard and pretty much same specs. The only difference is in the actual graphics card of choice as well as the Blu-ray Disc Burner on the workstation model.
Both are currently only available in the USA with a price tag set at US $2,199.99 for the GT60 2OD-261US Gaming SKU and US $2,799.99 for the GT60 2OKWS-278US Workstation SKU.
