Since R9 290's GPU Boost is temperature controlled and limited, Sapphire has decided to release a new performance enhancing BIOS for its Sapphire R9 290 graphics card.
There have been a couple of reports, which are now recognized by Sapphire, that the performance on the R9 290 is capped by the system when the GPU temperature reaches it operating maximum. So in order to cope with it, Sapphire's new BIOS Simply raises the fan speed profiles which, of course, leads to higher noise as well.
According to Sapphire, the BIOS raises the maximum fan speed of 47 percent, to an unknown levels and thus providing much less chance of that the R9 290 will reach its maximum temperature threshold.
The new BIOS and Flash tool are both available from Sapphire's website and those that do not want to play around with BIOS flashing can always use the Sapphire TriXX software and push the fan to spin at a bit higher RPM.
