While it clearly announced that Battlefield 4 will be bundled with and Radeon R9 series graphics card, it appears that this will not be the case, at least according to AMD's statement released today.
While original informations were quite clear that all and any AMD Radeon R9 series graphics card, bought after 13th of November will be eligible to get a free copy of Battlefield 4 game, it appears that retailer and AIB partners will have a final say in this deal and will not depend on AMD exclusively. As you can see from the slide below, taken from AMD's PDF, it was pretty clear that all R9 series graphics cards were intended for Battlefield 4 bundle while R7 260X should get AMD Never Settle Radeon Silver reward, giving it two games from the Silver list.
AMD released the statement saying that "AMD’s Battlefield 4 promotion was not clear and has led to some confusion in the marketplace. It suggested that all customers who purchased an AMD Radeon R9 series graphics card on or after November 13, 2013 would receive a complimentary copy of Battlefield 4. While all AMD Radeon R9 series cards are theoretically eligible for the promotion (which is administered by AMD’s channel partners), retailers and add-in-board partners ultimately decide which select AMD Radeon R9 SKUs will include a copy of BF4."
After a quick check around retail/e-tail in Europe, there are not many retailers and partners that are currently offering this deal, although that might change as soon as the channel and AIB partners get a hold of this AMD statement. Currently, most deals comes from Sapphire and this apparently has nothing to do with the AMD, but was rather Sapphire's own decision.
The deal caused a lot of anger with R9 290X owners that bought the Battlefield 4 Edition of the R9 290X, and while AMD is definitely sorry and will launch 1000 BF4 code giveaway on its Facebook page, we simply cannot believe that it managed to create that much confusion over a simply bundle deal.
In any case, we will certainly keep an eye on the situation and report back as soon as we hear something new.
