AMD working on TressFX 2.0

Better performance and easier integration

We all had a chance to see the AMD TressFX integration in Tomb Raider but according to recent info, it appears that AMD is working on TressFX 2.0, a newer version of TressFX that should bring quite a few improvements.

According info that AMD provided during its Developer Summit, it appears that the TressFX 2.0 should bring better performance and easier integration into games. AMD also noted that TressFX is not all about the hair, but it can also do other things like grass and fur. During its Developer Summit, AMD talked how TressFX rendering and physics actually works and what will it bring in the future.

Unfortunately, AMD did not shed any details regarding the actual arrival date for the TressFX 2.0 or the game title in which we will see it but it certainly sounds impressive.

Quote:
“TressFX is AMD’s realistic hair rendering technology which renders and simulates the physics of thousands of individual strands of hair. It was first used in Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider, released earlier this year. Now AMD is introducing TressFX 2.0, a newer version of TressFX with better performance and easier integration into games. Additionally research is now being done to use TressFX for other things besides hair, like grass and fur. In this talk we will cover how TressFX rendering and physics works, the improvements made in TressFX 2.0, and the research which will be used in future products.”
