Seagate's Samsung division ships thinnest 2TB HDD

2.5-inch Spinpoint M9T 9.5mm HDD

Seagate has announced that its Samsung HDD division has started to ship the new 2.5-inch Spinpoint M9T HDD. With 9.5mm thickness, the new Spinpoint M9T is the world's thinest 2TB HDD and will also be available in 1.5TB capacity version.

According to Seagate, the new Spinpoint M9T gives OEMs, channel system integrators and consumers a thin, high-capacity storage solution ideal for external storage, notebook integration and upgrades, desktop, and gaming system applications. Dave Frankovich, senior product line manager at Samsung HDD said that "The M9T combines the highest areal density shipping in a single storage device with an innovative design that fits into mainstream notebook applications. While other 2TB are solutions on the market are 15 mm thick, the vast majority of mobile devices are designed to use a 9.5 mm drive; with the M9T, those devices can now have 2TB of storage, enabling a richer computing experience."

The rest of the specifications include a SATA 6Gbps interface as well as microactuation that should ensure fast and consistent HDD performance while NoiseGuard and SilentSeek should deliver ultra-quiet operation.

According the press release, the Spinpoint M9T hard drive is currently available in the Samsung Portable product line, which includes the M3 Portable and P3 Portable external drives, as well as with select partners.
