Although the Windows 8.1 launch did not get much attention as it did not bring any quite important improvements over Windows 8, it appears that AMD's APUs actually like it and can achieve up to 9.5 percent faster performance when running on Windows 8.1 OS.

According to Clarice Simmons, AMD's senior marketing manager, Windows 8.1 should be a lot better than the Windows 8 when it comes to pulling the best out of AMD's APUs and could deliver up to 9.5 percent higher performance. The numbers at the blog show the A10-6800K APU with older driver where the performance climbs up to 9.5 percent while in most cases it should actually hit up to 3.5 percent.

Of course, it is still a performance improvement, even when it is at 3.5 percent. According to Simmons, AMD's Wireless Display also works much better on the Windows 8.1 due to better architectural implementation and support for Miracast, better ecosystem support and new solutions that enable the OS to tap low latency display encode paths, something that was not possible on Windows 8.

It appears that there is more to Windows 8.1 than it meets the eye and we certainly hope that we will see even more of these performance improvements soon.
