Videocardz.com managed to get their hands on first pictures as well as detailed specifications for the recently rumored Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X that will not only be equipped with 20-phase Digi+ VRM but also provide quite a performance punch due to its higher clocks all across the board.
The Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X should end up at 950MHz base, 1100MHz Boost GPU clocks as well as 3GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 6GHz effective and paired up with a 384-bit memory interface. Since it is still based on the Tahiti chip, the new Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X is a revised version of the previously released Asus HD 7970 Matrix and still comes with TweakIT, ProbeIt, fan switch and dual BIOS features.
The new Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X definitely looks good but bear in mind that most partners will also do a non-reference version as well so it will face quite a stiff competition. Of course, we still need to see how much "revised" the new graphics card actually is and if there is some way to justify the new graphics card while Asus HD 7970 Matrix is still selling.
