AMD R9 290X price shows up at Newegg.com

Wants US $729.99

Newegg.com has finally listed reference design Radeon R9 290X graphics cards from three different partners and although it did not officially reveal the price, a keen eyed Techpowerup.com and HTML code revealed that the price should be US $729.99.

Set at a bit higher than anyone expected, this price puts the Radeon R9 290X at a rather awkward position since it is priced at around US $50 higher than the GTX 780, currently found at Newegg.com for around US $659.99. According to early info and mostly hopes, we know that it should end up to be at least a bit faster than the GTX 780 but everyone also expected it to hit below or even on par with the GTX 780.

Since Newegg.com usually adds US $10 to $30, we can now expect the official suggested price to be set at US $699.99.

We still need to wait for some official reviews to make a final judgment, but it appears that R9 290X will not be as cheap as everyone hoped it would. Of course, bear in mind that AMD can still quite easily change the price and we have to wait a bit longer for the official launch.

Since the price in Europe usually ends up with a 1:1 ratio, you can expect it to be priced at around €699.99 (inc. VAT).
