Asus working on custom R9 270X and R9 280X cards

BIOS details confirm it

It appears that Asus is working on at least a couple of custom R9 graphics cards including the Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP and ROG Matrix as well as the R9 270X DirectCU II TOP graphics cards.

While it is still not clear which GPU, including Tahiti LE, Pitcairn or Curacao, is behind the Radeon R9 270X, the recent leak at Tehcpowerup which shows the BIOS for the Asus Radeon R9 270X DirectCU II TOP confirms it is a new GPU that has 1792 stream processors and a 256-bit memory interface. According to our sources, it is the Curacao GPU which is a revised Pitcairn.

According to the leaked BIOS details, Asus' Radeon R9 270X DirectCU II TOP include 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5.6GHz while GPU clock is set at 1120MHz.

The next in line is the Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP that works at 970/1070MHz which is a bit lower than expected but the memory ended up at 1600MHz (6.4GHz effective). It is already quite known that we are looking at Tahiti XT GPU. The GPU is paired up with 3GB of GDDR5 memory and a 384-bit memory interface.

The last but definitely not the least, is the Asus Radeon R9 280X ROG Matrix. According to leaked info, it should be clocked at 950/1100MHz which is higher than the DirectCU II TOP model while memory remained at reference values.

As noted earlier, the NDA should be lifted on October 8th when we will surely see more info from all partners as well as see the full Asus lineup.
