AMD Radeon R9 270X faster than Tahiti LE

Based on Curacao GPU

According to details from OverclockersUK forums, it appears that the upcoming AMD Radeon R9 270X might be a big winner for AMD in the sub US $200 market considering that the Curacao GPU behind it might be quite similar to the limited edition Radeon HD 7870 based on the Tahiti LE GPU, just with higher clock speeds as well as different stream processor count.

In case you missed it earlier, Tahiti LE was a variation of quite popular Tahiti GPU that features lower number of stream processors and TMUs as well as a narrower 256-bit memory interface. Sources behind the leak call the R9 270X "a crippled HD 7950" which could point out to a 1792 stream processor number, slightly higher than 1536 found on the HD 7870 Tahiti LE based graphics cards. Unfortunately, the clock speeds are still unknown as AMD is doing quite a good job in keeping most informations under tight wraps.

According to last pieces of info that we managed to hear from our own sources, R9 270X should end up to be around 7 percent faster than the HD 7870 and we have been hearing that it is based on a "revised Pitcairn GPU" rather than the Tahiti LE. Of course, all is possible and we will surely keep an eye on it and our ear close to the ground.

During its GPU 2014 press event, AMD set the price for R9 270X at US $199, making it one of the most interesting graphics cards in the lineup.
