With the new iPhone 5S, Apple introduced a gold version of their flagship smartphone. Sure, it's not actually real gold, ist "just" anodized aluminum. Nevertheless, there are some crazy people out there who thought it would actually be fun to forge that golden part of the new iPhone 5S from real gold and then sell the thing on eBay. Well it turns out you can charge a massive premium for that big of gold. The winning bid on eBay was actually 10'100 US-Dollar and for that the bidder gets a 16 Gigabyte model.
With a contract the new iPhone 5S 16 Gigabyte is about to set you back 199 US-Dollar, but it looks like there are some rather wealthy people browsing eBay to which an iPhone 5S with real gold is worth more than 50 times that.
But that wasn't the funny part yet. If you head over to Gold Genie you can get an iPhone 5S 16 Gigabyte with 24ct gold for just 2'851 US-Dollar. If you want the 64 Gigabyte model, then it will cost you 3'385 US-Dollar. This sounds like the bargain of the century compared to the eBay auction price, what do you think?
