We hardly forgot about Steam's Steam Box system and now Valve's Managing Director, Gabe Newell added more fuel to the fire by saying that Steambox, the Linux gaming PC that Steam has been working for quite some time actually is not dead but will be further detailed next week.
Valve and Steam have been quite focused on Linux as the gaming platform and speaking at LinuxCon conference, Gabe Newell has definitely talked a lot about it. Steam already has the "big picture mode" that would work well with any sort of "console-like" platform.
Despite some early details it is still not clear if Valve will release its own hardware or rather a hardware specification for the device that some other company/companies will produce, but it appears that a prototype was already done in July and Valve is now focused on the actual controller.
We certainly look forward to the next week for more details regarding the Steam Box but it will have to be really impressive in order to compete with next-gen consoles, standard PC system and bunch of other devices on the market.
