Wccftech.com managed to grab some details or precisely, names of the upcoming AMD Radeon Volcanic Islands lineup that was leaked at HIS partner site. There has been a lot of speculation regarding the naming scheme as well as as corresponding relations with the current lineup but it looks like we now have final names.
The list includes all the graphics cards ranging from AMD R9-290 flagship GPU that should replace the HD 7990 as well as R9-280 replacing the Radeon HD 7900 series, R9-270 replacing the HD 7800/7700, R7-260 that should replace the HD 7770 series, R7-250 replacing the HD 7700 and the R7-240 that should replace the HD 7600 series.
According to our sources, it is still not clear which graphics card wil be based on which GPU as partners are still kept in the dark. It is possible that all upcoming Radeon graphics cards will be based on the reference design considering that AMD partners have not yet received any precise details nor any word on whether they will be able to do custom designs.
According to early info, top three graphics cards of the new GPU lineup will be based on the Hawaii GPU, except the flagship R9-290, which will be a dual-GPU solution with rumored Vesuvius/Tonga GPU codename.
Wccftech also managed to score details regarding HIS 280X iPower IceQ x3 graphics card that feature 3GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 384-bit memory interface, which suggest that partner are planing custom cards, although we are yet to hear any precise info.
AMD will hold a press event in Hawaii on 25th of September so we are sure we will see more info pretty soon.
