It looks like Microsoft is eager to officially announce its second attempt to take on the tablet market as it has sent out invites for a Surface event scheduled to kick off on 23rd of September. While first Surface was not a big success, Windows RT 8.1 and Windows 8.1 might change a few things and rumored Tegra 4 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 could certainly change a few things as well.
While the invite itself does not reveal much by showing an image of a Surface-like tablet and keyboard dock, the plethora of rumors that showed up earlier suggest that Microsoft will drop the RT name as well, launching Surface 2 with Windows RT 8.1 and the Surface Pro 2 with Windows 8.1. The rumors also could not get their finger on the precise SoC behind the new Surface 2 as it will either be Nvidia's Tegra 4 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Either way, the Surface 2 should do good, especially with a rumored 10.1-inch screen.
The Surface Pro 2 will most likely get Intel's 4th generation Core CPUs which should help a lot with the battery life that might even last for up to seven hours. It will most likely get a few more hardware updates including better SSD and more memory.
Microsoft will most likely also announce quite a few updates to its line of accessories including new keyboard covers, dock for Surface Pro 2 that should offer video output and much more.
In any case, we'll know for sure on September 23rd.
