Asus announces new X102BA ultraportable notebook

10.1-incher with AMD A4-1200 APU

Asus has announced the new X102BA, a compact and ultraportable notebook equipped with a 10.1-inch 1366x768 screen with 10-point multi-touch screen as well as AMD's A-series A4-1200 dual-core APU.

Based around a 10.1-inch touchscreen with 1366x768 resolution, the new Asus X102BA is powered by AMD's dual-core A4-1200 1GHz clocked APU with Radeon HD 8180 graphics that should be enough to cope with most office and daily tasks. The A4-1200 APU is paired up with 2 or 4GB of DDR3 memory and either 320 or 500GB of HDD storage space. With Asus Super Hybrid Engine II technology with "instant on", the X102BA should resume from sleep time in two seconds, have over two weeks of standby time and automatic data backup in sleep mode when the battery level drops below 5 percent.

The new Asus X102BA will be paired up with Microsoft's Windows 8 OS and bundled with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013. The screen itself is equipped with a multi-touch digitizer that recognizes a 5mm diameter contact point and also comes with a large multi-touch touchpad with gesture support. While we would prefer the similar specifications with at least 12.1-inch screen size, Asus puts a lot of faith in this 10.1-incher saying that it has a keyboard with keys perfectly calibrated for comfortable typing.

The rest of the specs include USB 3.0 ports, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, SD card reader, 720p HD camera for video chats as well as Asus' SonicMaster audio technology.

Unfortunately, Asus did not shed any light on the actual price of the X102BA but we guess it should be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, touchscreen and Windows 8 equipped notebook around.
