VR-Zone managed to gets some details regarding the actual pricing of the upcoming Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E CPUs that will be a part of Intel's High-End Desktop (HEDT) platform. In case you missed it earlier, the new Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E lineup will include Core i7, 4820K, Core i7-4930K and the flagship, Core i7-4960X Extreme Edition SKUs. The price will range from US $310 all the way up to US $990 for the flagship.
There has been a lot of doubt regarding Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform, especially due to the fact that you can actually have a standard, unlocked Core i7-4770K and the new Z87 motherboard for as low as US $450. Intel plan is to release HEDT platform for those that just want to spend a bit extra to get a bit extra performance.
The lineup kicks off with the cheapest of the Ivy Bridge-E bunch, the quad-core Core i7-4820K which is to be priced at US $310. This price tag puts it at around US $40 cheaper than the Haswell Core i7-4770K, but at a slightly better specs, including higher 3.7GHz base clock, same 3.9GHz maximum Turbo, larger 10MB of L3 cache, wider 48 PCI-Express 3.0 lane and better quad-channel memory controller. The Core i7-4770K does have a higher IPC (instructions per cycle) but everything else is on Core i7-4820K side, even considering the fact that the LGA2011 motherboard like Intel DX79TO can be found for as low as US $150.
The Ivy Bridge-E LGA2011 Core i7-4930K will be a cheaper six-core version and priced at US $555. It ends up US $50 cheaper than Core i7-3930K from the previous Sandy Bridge-E generation and works at 3.4GHz base, 3.9GHz maximum Turbo clocks and feature 12MB of L3 cache.
The last but not the least is the new HEDT flagship, the six-core Core i7-4960X Extreme Edition CPU. Working at 3.6GHz base and 4.0GHz maximum Turbo clocks and featuring full 15MB L3 cache will be the fastest that money can buy. With a US $990 price tag, it ends the Intel's habit of pricing HEDT flagships above US $1000 mark and is good US $60 cheaper than the previous flagship, the Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition CPU.
As rumored and detailed earlier, the Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E HEDT CPU lineup is expected to launch sometimes in September, between 4th and 10th.
