In its interview with The Verge, Google's Vice President of Android Product Management, Hugo Barra, noted that Android partners really need to improve their tablets and that he believes that Android still did not reach its high-end peak, at least in tablet market.
Hugo Barra expressed his opinion stating that he simply is not happy with the state of the Android-based tablet market and manufacturers can do much better than what we are currently have on the market. Barra noted that "the Android ecosystem has not yet put its best foot forward" and gave bunch of credit to HTC and its execution with the HTC One smartphone simply wondering why has not someone done that on the tablet.
While giving praise to its own new Nexus 7, Barra noted that it is a US $200 device and that, with a price of US $300 or $400, you could do a lot more in terms of polish, materials and other stuff. He noted that Nexus 7 can't do it alone and that there is still room in the market.
Recent reports suggest that Nexus 10 is on its way and rumors put it in the US $400 range which would put it in line with Hugo Barra's expectations.
In any case, Google will benefit from any device based on Android, but clearly wants a bigger piece of the market and believes that there is still much room for improvement.
