Google is donating US $600,000 to San Francisco in order to get free WiFi to 31 public parks, plazas and recreation centers.
The US $600,000 will pay for equipment costs, installation and maintenance for two years. Google's senior manager for public policy and government relations Veronica Bell told the San Francisco Chronicle that the company is quite proud to provide free WiFi in San Francisco, a city where thousands of its employees work and live.
The move does not come as a surprise considering that Google was always more than eager to help with such projects before as it was the company that initiated free WiFi in Silicon Valley cities as well as towns like Boston, New York City, Los Angeles and Seattle.
The project should kick off next spring when it is expected for free WiFi to go online.
