Samsung reveals new 2.5-inch NVMe enterprise SSD

First 2.5-inch NVM Express PCIe SSD

In addition to the announcement of the new Samsung SSD 840 Evo lineup, during its 2013 Samsung SSD Global Summit in Korea, Samsung also revealed the new and world's first, 2.5-inch NVMe (Non-Volitile Memory Express) PCI-Express enterprise SSD series, the Samsung XS1715.

As noted, the Samsung XS1715 is the first 2.5-inch SFF-8639 SSD that uses PCI-Express 3.0 in order to provide sequential read performance of up to 3GB/s with 4K random read of up to 740k IOPS. To be available in capacities of 400GB, 800GB and 1.6TB the new Samsung XS1715 is up to 14 times faster than a high-end enterprise HDD and up to six times faster than Samsung's previous high-end SSD offering.

Samsung's new XS1715 can be found on the NVMe Integrators List, which makes it an easy-to-manage and highly reliable solution for data center and server storage customers.

Samsung also noted that it will continue to develop a variety of NVMe SSD products over the next several years and promises increasingly high performance levels with future products.
