TSMC and Apple - Big deal ahead

20, 16, 10nm Chips

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is soon going to manufacture all chips for Apple. The latter this brings the advantage, that they wouldn't have to rely on Smasung as a supplier.

One of the top priorities of Apple must be getting rid of dependencies from Samsung. To mention an example: the NAND flash in all Apple devices meanwhile comes from Toshiba. Another example? The displays are being manufactured by LG and Sharp. These days it seems to be only the A-Series processors that are being manufactured by Samsung.

By the beginning of 2014 Apple want to have TSMC manufacture all their A-Series processors and at that point the CPU's will have 20 nanometer structures. In the following years Apple wants TSMC to shrink the manufacturing process first to 16 nanometer and then to 10 nanometer. This will help Apple remain highly competitive.
