OUYA gaming console has finally hit retail and has been sold out in a matter of minutes as it went live at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Target Best Buy, GameStop and some other retailers/e-tailers. Unfortunately, most of the original early backers on Kickstarter are still waiting for their own devices.
OUYA is definitely one of the most successful projest at Kickstarter as it managed to raise over US $8.5 million in funds. In case you missed it earlier, OUYA is actually Nvidia Tegra 3 based device that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. OUYA got a lot of praise earlier but the delay from its official 4th of June launch date and the fact that original backers still have not got their own console has resulted in some angry backers.
As one of them commented at OUYA's Kickstarter site, "Normally I would say 'congrats', but in this case it is just sad to read. It just means that there are several people getting the Ouya faster and cheaper than the people that actually made this possible."
The situation is quite grim but Ouya's fourned and CEO Julie Uhrman noted that all Kickstarter backers will soon get their own samples as a big shipment left Hong Kong recently.
OUYA is currently out of stock in most if not all stores but some might still be available at Best Buy, GameStop, Target or GAME retail shops.
