The World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular subscription-based MMORPG in the world but it appears that it has already hit its peak. It has been loosing players quite fast and according to a report, 1.3 million of them have abandon it in the last three months.
Blizzard announced that subscriber base for the World Of Warcraft currently stands at 8.3 million, down from 9.6 million it had in February. According to Blizzard, majority of those subscribers are in the East where they get lower revenue per subscriber but it also saw a decline in the West. Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick also noted that they expect the downward trend to continue through the end of the year.
Of course, Blizzard is still quite proud as "World of Warcraft still remains one of the most successful franchises in the history of entertainment" and Blizzard still believe in long-term value of that franchise.
Despite the big hit from loosing subscribers in the World of Warcraft, Kotick noted and reminded investors that recently released Star Craft II: Heart of the Swarm sold 1.1 million copies during first 48 hours of availability.
