WD and SanDisk work on 5mm WD Black hybrid

God almighty, WD and SSDs?

Western Digital announced that it has been working with Sandisk on its recently revealed 5mm-thick WD Black solid state hybrid drive (SSHD). It appears that the upcoming 2.5-inch WD Black SSHD will use Sandisk's iSSD for caching.
Western Digital noted that by using Sandisk's compact, low-power, high performance and reliability iSSD flash storage device, the upcoming 2.5-inch 5mm thick WD Black will be able to use the iSSD part as caching drive for the main 500GB WD part and thus provide higher transfer speeds.

Earlier, WD noted that the new SSHD drives will be by up to 36 percent lighter, quieter and shockproof when compared to traditional HDDs.

Unfortunately, the 5mm-thick 2.5-inch WD Black SSHD is still shipping only to OEMs while precise availability date and price have not been announced.
