While PC industry is on its knees, Asus announced that it scored quite a decent profit of US $205 million mostly gained from its tablet lineup. The profits are up by 21 percent when compared to the last year and most of it came from those 3 million tablets it managed to sell.
Most of those 3 million, of course, came from Asus and Google cooperation and Nexus 7, but according to Asus some gains were seen with its Windows 8 tablet lineup, including the 10-inch VivoTab Smart with quite affordable US $450 price tag. According to a report, Asus plans to introduce a 7-inch Windows 8 tablets as well and might be the only competition to the rumored 7-inch Surface that Microsoft is preparing.
Asus is quite confident that Windows 8 tablets will take a big part of the market. Asus also wants to focus on its "touchable" Windows 8 Ultrabook lineup and also wants a piece of the US smartphone market.
Asus plans to become the second largest tablet manufacturer by the end of 2013 by squeezing Samsung from the second place and get close to Apple which firmly holds the first place.
