According to a report at CNET, Microsoft might be working on a new, smaller Surface tablet that could come next year and feature a 7.5-inch screen and most likely lower price tag.
Richard Shim from NPD DisplaySearch told CNET that the new Microsoft Surface should enter mass production in the first quarter of the next year and would use a 7.5-inch 1400x1050 panel. This 7.5-inch panel sounds like a good competition when compared to current Nexus 7 and iPad mini but the Q1 2014 is still far away as both Google and Apple will be ready with its next generation as well.
Other rumors around the net, including one from Digitimes, claim that Microsoft is working on two new Surface tablets, with anywhere between 7- and 9-inch panels.
It is, of course, still to early to talk about any precise prices but we guess that it will end up cheaper than its current 10.1-inch Surface and most likely be competitively priced.
