Core i7-4960X roughly 10% faster than i7-3970X

Ivy Bridge-E not that impressive

One of the users over at Coolaler.com had a chance to spin up a sample of a Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E chip clocked to match the Core i7-4960X and compared it to the Sandy Bridge-E Core i7-3970X.
Since both chips fit the same LGA2011 socket, all tests were done on MSI X79A-GD45 Plus motherboard based on Intel's X79 Express chipset. The sample was tested in Cinebench 11.5, WPrime 1.63, CPU Mark '99, 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 06 and we must say that the results are far from impressive. Of course, bear in mind that this is still a sample merely clocked to match the Core i7-4960X so we'll hold our judgment until we see some final results.

The Ivy Bridge-E chip is faster but the problem is that performance gains are anywhere between 5 and 10 percent. For example, Sandy Bridge-E based Core i7-3970X scored 10.16 in Cinebench 11.5 while the Ivy Bridge-E sample managed to get 10.94 points. Super Pi 32M was done in 9m 22.6s on the Ivy Bridge-E sample while Sandy Bridge-E managed to get the calculation done in 9m 55.4s.

It is still too early to talk about the actual performance gain but judging by these early results, Ivy Bridge-E might not be impressive at all.
