Judging by comments coming from no other than Intel's CEO Paul Otellini, we might see Windows 8 tablets with US $200 price tag pretty soon.
Although we heard this way too many times before, when something like that come from mouth of one of the most important persons in the PC industry, Intel's CEO Paul Otellini, we sure have to believe that it will be true. According to him and some other Intel executives, Windows 8 touch devices, including notebooks, should drop down to price points that will be competitive with inexpensive tablets.
According to Intel executives heard during company's Q1 earning conference call, its upcoming quad-core Bay Trail chip will be the foundation of these new innovative designs. Intel's chief financial officer, Stacy Smith noted that Bay Trail is going to be a great product in that segment and enable stunning performance relative to what the competition can bring.
The Bay Trail should end up to be "the most powerful Atom processor to date" according to some earlier reports from Intel and is expected to be ready in time for the holiday season. Otellini also noted that he expects more standard ultrabook designs based on the upcoming Haswell chip to hit US $499 mark.
